Garcia gives such a great interview - seems like such a cool guy even when handed bonehead questions from someone who didnt' even seem to know anything about the dead. Garcia was so patient on that day. Unlike Mr. Weirs interview of the same day. everyone is different though.

In two years he was, uh, Dead. This interview, despite it's happy face qualities, really has some poignant moments. Jerry talking about his health and "making it" to the new millenium and such. If he only truly knew what was in front of him...

you know - i forgot about that - watched it several months ago. i remember feeling the same thing - i don't know if it was loss, sadness, karma, or whatever. Just made me stare at Jerry's face when he made those comments knowing he died 5 years before the date he wanted to make it to. Such a lively, personable interview - but you are right - poignent to the point of sadness during that 20 second moment.

There was really a lot that was foretelling about the end. Jerry spoke about the venue crunch and the difficulties with certain localities, and the need for limiting the touring schedule. It all kind of pointed to the disaster that was the spring 95 tour. What shook me most of all was that he still maintained such a high level of enthusiasm but knew the physical aspects of the job were eating away at his abilitiy to do the thing he loved the most.

It's unfortunate that we can only look at the end in retrospect and from 11 years hence, really have a true picture of the decline and demise. Even in his unanbashed enthusiasm and jovial nature, there was still plenty of hints about the darkness that was coming.

What's most amazing is that there's many of us that refuse to admit the notion that the band was in a state of decline, when there's documentary proof showing us otherwise. It's all right here for us to ponder.
